Lara Zekaria, DVM

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Zekaria (Dr. Z) earned a Bachelor of Arts from University of Pennsylvania in 1991 then went on to earn a Master in Education from Pepperdine University in 1996. After graduating from Pepperdine, Dr. Z worked in various elementary schools throughout the Los Angeles area, honing her teaching skills. Although she loved educating her kiddos, Dr. Z soon realized she yearned to combine her love of teaching with her lifelong love of animals. In order to accomplish her dream, Dr. Z returned to college to complete additional pre-veterinary courses, worked as a veterinary technician, and ultimately earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2003 from UC Davis.

Dr. Z practiced veterinary medicine in a small animal practice in West Los Angeles for 20 years before moving to the Santa Ynez Valley to join Vet’s Here. Her interests are dermatology, internal medicine, dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and behavior medicine. She is dedicated to educating and empowering her clients and is looking forward to meeting you and your furry family members.

When not working, Dr. Z is passionate about mentoring the next generation of veterinarians and raising money for endangered mountain gorillas. She also loves spending time with her husband, her twins, and her bernedoodle named Gus.
